Ten Days Until Christmas

My favourite time of the year is a sneak peak around the corner and so I thought it was about time we chat traditions. Every family I know have tiny little routines around Christmas time that they’ve followed for years. These routines may have been tweaked slightly when the family grew or when the family reduced in size… or for any number of reasons really. Whether it’s a type of food that’s cooked every year or a particular game that’s played, we all have something. So I figured I’d ask you all if there’s a particular tradition you and your family have during this time of the year. In the mean time I’ll shed some Christmas light on some of the traditions my family partakes in.

Present Opening
My family have two lots of present opening times. The first is in the morning, for all Santa presents to be opened. The second is in the evening after the entirety of Christmas Day has passed, we open all remaining presents from the family. This used to be such a painful time to wait as a child but now I rather enjoy the tradition. Lately though, we’ve moved into more of a Secret Santa regime but we still open family/Secret Santa gifts in the evening!

Christmas Lunch
From as far back as I can recall, we’ve eaten ham every Christmas lunch. Although, I have a feeling that tradition will change this year! As for breakfast, it’s rarely eaten. The entire day usually embraces a TREAT YOURSELF attitude where chocolate can be eaten at absolutely any time.

The Royal Family
You might ask why I’ve included this title? Well, my Dad is a born and bred pom who grew up with the royal family splayed across his newspapers and on his main news channel. So, yes, we watch the Queen’s speech without fail every Christmas Day evening and on top of that we usually place bets on the colour she chooses to wear. It’s a bit of a funny one.

Now, let loose in the comment section and tell me about the traditions you and your family have created during the Christmas season. Some of them might just be ingenious traditions that I’ll want to take on board…

For now, I’ll leave you with a Christmas photo of Dylan and George (my brother and sister-in-law’s fur babies) from a Christmas-themed portraiture shoot we did this weekend!
