New Year, New Decade, New ME.
Happy 2020 friends and welcome to a new decade!
What does this even mean? It means that we are closer to 2050 than we are 1980 (WHAT?). It also means that we’re now officially in the year that relates to the Australian 2020 Summit that was held in 2008 by Kevin Rudd (whether or not we’ve accomplished much of what K.Rudd thought we would, is uncertain). 2020 could also mean the beginning of microchips implanted in our brains in order to control our devices, just the start of this technology though - let’s wait and see if this invention truly takes off.
All 2020 information aside, there’s probably a lot happening and you might actually feel a little overwhelmed by the fact that we’re in a new year and also a new decade. If that’s you, I get it, I know the feeling. A new year always brings the pressures of creating new goals and smashing them as the days and months go on. But know this, you’re not obliged to tick some lousy goals off of a list, you’re not even obliged to create those goals in the first place. Just do you for 2020, focus on continuing and growing your 2019 self because let’s be real, if you got through 2019 then you can make it through 2020 EASY!! For those of you that have made goals though, good for you! You go ahead and kick those goals you saucy thing!
Enough of the New Year talk though, I want to tell you what I got up to before we switched over to the new decade. Some of you may have seen via other socials that I was in New Zealand at the end of 2019. It was beautiful there, as always; internet was scarce, greenery was lush and the drinks and family times were abundant. I’m lucky enough to have a Mum that’s from New Zealand and with her family living there we tend to visit the beautiful country often. This time we visited for the New Year and headed to a place called our ‘Crib’. For North Island kiwi’s, that’s the same as a ‘Batch' and for the rest of you these places are like holiday homes except picture a cabin in some camping grounds surrounded by trees, pathways, a river and other cabins or ‘cribs’. Our particular crib is fully functioning and uses solar lighting, fire to heat the shower and oven, gas to heat the stove and (luckily) a sceptic tank for our hygiene needs. Our crib was built 60 years ago, so of course we had to celebrate and celebrate we did! Sixty decades on and there were plenty of other people from the cribs surrounding us, huddling on the deck and celebrating with wood fired pizzas, beers, wine and many, many stories (and photos - which the older folk pledge to duplicate someday). It’s humbling to know that all of the people there have kept in contact somehow with one another and still create memorable moments every year at the crib. Here’s but a few memories from my time at the crib:
After smashing out almost 7 recycling bins full of beer bottles, amongst other alcoholic beverage bottles, in just one week, the crib experience was over which meant my birthday came and went and we were (are) now in TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY. So, as I said previously you shouldn’t feel pressured to create goals in 2020, just do what you gotta do, but let’s all smash life together this year because HECK, I’ve got some things coming up that I can’t wait to share with you all.
Take your time today folks, I’ll chat soon!
