Opposites Attract: Shay & Scott
Imagine meeting the love of your life half way across the world and realising he’s the polar opposite of you. Well, that’s what happened to Shay and Scott. It was a blossoming love story from the beginning really. With a stroke of luck, the one thing they had in common was travelling and so Shay and Scott met on a tour in Vietnam.
After Vietnam, Scott, an almost 2 metre tall Scottish guy that completely embodies the word ‘calm’ and Shay, an eloquent Aussie that juggles a fair bit of nervous energy, began a long distance love. The two of them could foresee many travels to each other’s home towns however, COVID abruptly cut those dreams short. It’s a testament to their love for each other that they made long distance work through the throws of a pandemic (I know I’m impressed and in awe, so I’m sure you would be too)!
More than 2 years on, their wedding day arrived. The men began their day with whiskey, while the bride calmed her nerves with stillness. I asked the two of them what they loved the most about each other and this is what said:
Shay: “I love that Scott is always calm and patient. He is unflappable and has a knack of tempering my nervous energy. We have great discussions and he can make me see things from a different perspective. We may not always agree but that's ok.”
Scott: “I love Shays personality so much. She's a positive, intelligent outgoing person whom tends to not only see a different side to situations/people but then eloquently shows her point of view. She really makes me think and sometimes change my own point of view.”
The day ahead was nothing short of beautiful, tear-jerking and a heck of a lot of fun! With their nearest and dearest surrounding them, even through the screen at 6.00AM in Scotland, they said their “I Do’s.” The ceremony wrapped up with a little bagpipe surprise to pay homage to Scott’s home town. Then the guests and the bride and groom tended to the dance floor to truly celebrate the day.
The whole day felt like a celebration, a line in the sand to say that they were officially home, together. Congratulations Shay & Scott, I hope wedded life is doing you well and that Scott, since becoming a husband, has learnt to use the kitchen as a kitchen rather than a water feature!
